Jeanne Shaheen

Jeanne Shaheen, a member of the Democratic Party, has served as a United States Senator from New Hampshire since 2009. Born in Saint Charles, Missouri, she earned her bachelor's degree from Shippensburg State College and a master's degree from the University of Mississippi. Before her career in public service, she worked as a high school teacher and co-owned a small retail business. Her political career began in the New Hampshire State Senate, where she served from 1992 to 1996, followed by her election as the first female Governor of New Hampshire, a role she held for three terms from 1997 to 2003. Shaheen made history as the first woman in United States history to be elected as both a Governor and a U.S. Senator. Since her first election to the Senate in 2008, she has become a senior member of several influential committees, including the Senate Committees on Appropriations, Foreign Relations, Armed Services, and Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
