Mark Warner

Mark Robert Warner is a Democratic politician and businessman who has served as the senior United States Senator from Virginia since January 2009. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was the first in his family to graduate from college, earning a Bachelor of Arts from George Washington University as valedictorian before obtaining a J.D. from Harvard Law School. Before entering politics, Warner achieved significant success in the private sector as a technology entrepreneur and venture capitalist, notably co-founding the company that became Nextel and establishing Columbia Capital. He previously served as the 69th Governor of Virginia from 2002 to 2006, during which time he was noted for bipartisan management and efforts to improve the state's business climate and educational system. In the U.S. Senate, Warner has established a reputation as a moderate and pragmatic Democrat, often engaging in bipartisan negotiations on fiscal and national security issues. He currently serves on several key committees, including the Senate Finance, Banking, and Budget Committees.
