Roger Marshall

Roger Wayne Marshall is a physician and politician serving as the junior U.S. Senator from Kansas since 2021. A member of the Republican Party, he was first elected to Congress in 2016, representing Kansas's 1st congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives for two terms. Marshall grew up in El Dorado, Kansas, and was the first in his family to attend college. He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in biochemistry and earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1987, later completing his residency in obstetrics and gynecology in Florida. Before entering politics, Marshall served seven years in the U.S. Army Reserve, reaching the rank of captain. He practiced medicine as an obstetrician-gynecologist in Great Bend, Kansas, for over 25 years, during which time he delivered more than 5,000 babies. His professional background includes serving as chairman of the board of Great Bend Regional Hospital and as a business owner. In the Senate, he serves on several key committees, including the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry; the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions; and the Committee on Finance.

Senator Marshall's policy positions are characterized by conservative principles. In healthcare, he is a vocal advocate for repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act and opposes Medicaid expansion, instead promoting reforms centered on price transparency, competition, and rural health access. On economic issues, he supports deregulation and tax reform intended to benefit small businesses and the agricultural sector. Marshall is a supporter of the Second Amendment and maintains a pro-life stance on abortion. In foreign policy, he is a firm supporter of Israel, having cosponsored legislation against the BDS movement and supporting the move of the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. He has also been a critic of the Iran nuclear deal and has emphasized the need for border security and stricter enforcement of immigration laws.
