Tommy Tuberville

Thomas Hawley Tuberville is a Republican politician and former college football coach serving as the senior United States Senator from Alabama since 2021. Born in Camden, Arkansas, he graduated from Southern Arkansas University in 1976 with a degree in physical education. Before entering politics, Tuberville spent decades in collegiate athletics, notably serving as the head football coach at Auburn University from 1999 to 2008, where he led the team to an undefeated season in 2004. He also held head coaching positions at the University of Mississippi, Texas Tech University, and the University of Cincinnati. Tuberville transitioned to politics in 2020, running as a Republican for the U.S. Senate seat in Alabama. He won the Republican primary against former Senator Jeff Sessions and subsequently defeated incumbent Democrat Doug Jones in the general election. Since taking office, he has served on several committees, including the Armed Services Committee, the Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee, and the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee.

Tuberville maintains a conservative legislative platform. On economic issues, he advocates for lower taxes, deregulation, and reduced government spending to stimulate growth. Regarding immigration, he supports strict border security measures, including the completion of a border wall and mandatory E-Verify for employers, and has introduced legislation to reform the asylum and assimilation processes. On healthcare, he supports market-based alternatives and the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. In social policy, he identifies as pro-life, opposes taxpayer funding for abortion, and advocates for the protection of the Second Amendment. Additionally, he has expressed skepticism toward diversity and inclusion initiatives within the military and has pushed for policies that emphasize peace through strength in foreign affairs.
