Michael Bennet

Michael Bennet is a Democratic U.S. Senator from Colorado, first appointed in January 2009 to fill the vacancy left by Ken Salazar. He won his first full term in 2010 and was subsequently re-elected in 2016 and 2022. Before his tenure in Congress, Bennet served as the Superintendent of Denver Public Schools from 2005 to 2009, where he was noted for school reform and budget stabilization efforts. His professional background also includes serving as Chief of Staff to Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and working as a Managing Director at the Anschutz Investment Company, where he managed large-scale corporate debt restructurings. Bennet attended Wesleyan University, earning his bachelor's degree in history, and Yale Law School, where he served as the editor-in-chief of the Yale Law Journal. His early legal career included a role as counsel to the U.S. Deputy Attorney General during the Clinton administration.
