John Hoeven

John Hoeven is a Republican politician and former banker currently serving as the senior U.S. Senator from North Dakota. Born in Bismarck, North Dakota, Hoeven earned a bachelor's degree in economics and history from Dartmouth College in 1979 and an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management in 1981. Before entering politics, he spent nearly two decades in the banking industry, notably serving as the president and CEO of the Bank of North Dakota from 1993 to 2000. Hoeven was elected as the 31st Governor of North Dakota in 2000 and served three terms until 2010, focusing on economic diversification and energy development. In 2010, he was first elected to the U.S. Senate, succeeding retiring Senator Byron Dorgan. During his tenure in the Senate, he has become a leading figure on agricultural and energy policy, serving as a senior member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry and the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.
