Marsha Blackburn

Marsha Blackburn is a Republican politician who has served as the senior U.S. Senator from Tennessee since 2019. Born in Laurel, Mississippi, she earned a Bachelor of Science in home economics from Mississippi State University in 1974. Before entering public service, she worked as a sales manager for the Southwestern Company and later founded Marketing Strategies, a promotional event management firm. Her political career began in the Tennessee State Senate, where she served from 1999 to 2003 and gained prominence for leading a grassroots campaign against a proposed state income tax. Blackburn was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2002, representing Tennessee's 7th Congressional District from 2003 until 2019. During her House tenure, she held various leadership roles, including Deputy Whip, and was a high-ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. In 2018, she was elected to the U.S. Senate, making history as the first woman to represent Tennessee in that chamber. She won reelection to the Senate in 2024 and subsequently announced her candidacy for Governor of Tennessee in 2026.
