Rosa DeLauro

Rosa Luisa DeLauro is a Democratic politician who has served as the U.S. Representative for Connecticut’s 3rd Congressional District since 1991. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, she grew up in a politically active family and earned a B.A. from Marymount College and an M.A. from Columbia University. Before her election to Congress, DeLauro held several high-level roles, including serving as Chief of Staff to Senator Christopher Dodd and as the first executive director of EMILY's List. Throughout her tenure in Congress, DeLauro has focused heavily on public health, economic fairness, and women’s rights. She is a founding member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and has held influential leadership positions, including serving as Chair of the House Appropriations Committee during the 117th Congress and as its current Ranking Member. DeLauro is widely recognized for her legislative work on healthcare and food safety. As an ovarian cancer survivor, she has consistently pushed for increased funding for biomedical research through the National Institutes of Health. She co-founded the Congressional Food Safety Caucus and has been a leading advocate for the expanded Child Tax Credit and the Paycheck Fairness Act.

She is a strong supporter of the Affordable Care Act and advocates for universal healthcare, with a focus on women's health and robust funding for the National Institutes of Health.
