Al Green

Alexander N. Green, commonly known as Al Green, is a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Texas's 9th Congressional District since 2005. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Green attended several universities, including Florida A&M University and Howard University, before earning his Juris Doctorate from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in 1973. Prior to his election to Congress, he co-founded the law firm of Green, Wilson, Dewberry, and Fitch and served as a Justice of the Peace in Harris County, Texas, for 26 years from 1977 to 2004. Throughout his career, he has been a vocal advocate for civil rights, including serving as president of the Houston branch of the NAACP for a decade. In the House of Representatives, Green has served on the Committee on Financial Services and the Committee on Homeland Security. He has held leadership positions within the Democratic Party, including serving as an Assistant Whip. His legislative work often focuses on social justice, fair housing, and supporting vulnerable populations. He is notably recognized for his early and persistent calls for the impeachment of Donald Trump during his presidency, introducing several articles of impeachment on the House floor. Green is also a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, reflecting his commitment to representing the diverse communities within his district.
