Bill Huizenga

William Patrick "Bill" Huizenga is a Republican U.S. Representative who has served Michigan in Congress since 2011. Born and raised in Zeeland, Michigan, he graduated from Holland Christian High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Calvin College in 1991. Before entering public office, Huizenga worked in the private sector as a realtor and as a co-owner of Huizenga Gravel Inc., a family business. He also served as the Director of Public Policy for former U.S. Representative Pete Hoekstra from 1997 to 2003. Huizenga began his legislative career in the Michigan House of Representatives, where he served from 2003 to 2009. He was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010 to represent Michigan's 2nd District and has represented the 4th District since 2023 following redistricting. In Congress, he is a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee, where he has held leadership roles including Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee. He also serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and is a co-chair of the bipartisan Great Lakes Task Force.

Huizenga's policy positions focus on fiscal conservatism, regulatory reform, and environmental protection for the Great Lakes. He advocates for lower taxes, reduced government spending, and a balanced budget to address national debt. On healthcare, he supports the repeal of the Affordable Care Act in favor of market-based reforms and has opposed government-led drug price negotiations. Regarding the environment, he is a strong proponent of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) and co-founded a task force to address PFAS contamination, though he has historically expressed skepticism toward federal climate change regulations such as "Cap and Trade." His immigration stance emphasizes border security and the implementation of a guest worker program. Additionally, he is a supporter of the Second Amendment and holds a pro-life position on abortion.
