Robert Latta

Robert Latta is a Republican politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Ohio's 5th congressional district, a position he has held since 2007. Born in Bluffton, Ohio, Latta earned his Bachelor of Arts from Bowling Green State University in 1978 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Toledo College of Law in 1981. Prior to his election to Congress, he practiced law and served in several local and state offices, including as a Wood County Commissioner and as a member of both the Ohio Senate and the Ohio House of Representatives. Latta was first elected to the U.S. House in a special election following the death of Congressman Paul Gillmor. As a senior member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, he has held leadership roles including Chairman of the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology and the Subcommittee on Energy. His legislative accomplishments include authoring the HALT Fentanyl Act to address the opioid crisis and working on policies to expand rural broadband access and promote domestic energy production.

Latta's policy positions emphasize fiscal conservatism, national security, and limited government intervention. In healthcare, he supports the repeal of the Affordable Care Act and advocates for market-based reforms and medical liability reform. His economic platform focuses on tax cuts, deregulation, and balanced budgets to drive job creation. He is a proponent of energy independence and supports an all-of-the-above energy strategy. Regarding immigration, Latta prioritizes border security and strict enforcement of immigration laws to prevent illegal entry and drug trafficking.
