Zoe Lofgren

Susan Ellen "Zoe" Lofgren is a Democratic U.S. Representative currently serving California's 18th Congressional District. First elected to the House in 1994, she assumed office in January 1995. Born in San Mateo, California, Lofgren earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Stanford University in 1970 and a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the Santa Clara University School of Law in 1975. Before entering Congress, she served as a staff member for her predecessor, Congressman Don Edwards, for eight years and later practiced and taught immigration law. Her local political career included serving on the San Jose-Evergreen Community College District Board and the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, where she served for 14 years. In Congress, Lofgren has become a prominent figure on the House Judiciary Committee, where she has been a member during three separate impeachment inquiries. She has also chaired the House Administration Committee and currently serves as the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. Her legislative work is noted for its focus on immigration reform, digital rights, and technology policy. She was a key member of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol and has been a leader in the California Democratic Congressional Delegation.

In healthcare, she supports the Affordable Care Act and is a member of the Medicare for All Caucus, seeking to expand coverage and reduce costs. On technology and civil liberties, she is a staunch defender of digital rights, having led opposition to the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and consistently supporting net neutrality and privacy protections.
