Tom McClintock

Tom McClintock is a Republican U.S. Representative for California's 5th congressional district, having served in Congress since being first elected in 2008. He assumed office in January 2009, initially representing the 4th district before redistricting. Prior to his congressional career, McClintock served 22 years in the California legislature, with two tenures in the State Assembly (1982–1992 and 1996–2000) and one in the State Senate (2000–2008). He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1978. In the House, he has established himself as a prominent advocate for fiscal conservatism, often focused on government spending and constitutional governance. He currently serves on the House Judiciary, Natural Resources, and Budget committees. His work on the Judiciary Committee includes chairing the Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement. McClintock is also noted for his focus on federal land management, water resource development, and wildfire mitigation, which are critical issues for his Sierra Nevada and Central Valley district.

McClintock maintains a consistently conservative platform centered on limited government and fiscal restraint. He advocates for a balanced budget amendment, broad tax reductions, and the elimination of unauthorized federal spending to address the national debt.
