Jerrold Nadler

Jerrold Nadler is a Democratic U.S. Representative from New York, currently representing the 12th District. First elected to the House in a 1992 special election to fill the seat of the late Ted Weiss, he is currently the Dean of the New York Congressional Delegation. Nadler was born in Brooklyn and graduated from Stuyvesant High School. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University in 1969 and his Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law in 1978. Before joining Congress, he served as a member of the New York State Assembly from 1977 to 1992, where he focused on transit, housing, and consumer protection. During his tenure in Congress, Nadler has become a central figure in judicial and constitutional matters, serving as the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee from 2019 to 2023. In this role, he led the impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump and has been a primary advocate for civil liberties, voting rights, and reproductive freedom. He also serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, where he has secured significant federal funding for New York City's transit systems. In 2025, he announced that he would not seek reelection in 2026 after over three decades of service in the House.

Nadler maintains a consistently progressive platform, advocating for a single-payer healthcare system and the codification of reproductive rights through the Women's Health Protection Act. He is a prominent supporter of the Green New Deal and climate-focused infrastructure projects, reflecting his long-standing focus on urban transportation and mass transit. On immigration, he supports a pathway to citizenship for DREAMers and comprehensive reform, while opposing policies like family separation. He also emphasizes civil rights protection, including LGBTQ+ equality and voting rights, and is a vocal supporter of Israel and efforts to combat antisemitism. In economic policy, he supports progressive taxation, labor protections, and federal funding for the arts.
