Mike Quigley

Mike Quigley is a Democratic U.S. Representative representing Illinois's 5th Congressional District, first elected in a special election on April 7, 2009, to succeed Rahm Emanuel. Before joining Congress, Quigley served as a Cook County Commissioner from 1998 to 2009, where he built a reputation as a reformer by focusing on fiscal responsibility and government transparency. He also worked as a practicing attorney for over a decade and served as an adjunct professor at Loyola University Chicago and Roosevelt University, teaching courses on politics and environmental policy. Quigley earned his Bachelor of Arts in political science from Roosevelt University in 1981, a Master of Public Policy from the University of Chicago in 1985, and a Juris Doctor from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 1989. In the U.S. House of Representatives, he serves on the influential House Appropriations Committee and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He is the co-founder and co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional Transparency Caucus and has been a leading advocate for modernizing government operations. His legislative accomplishments include the passage of the ACT for ALS to fund neurodegenerative disease research and the Congressional Budget Justification Act to improve public access to government spending information. Additionally, he has been a consistent advocate for infrastructure investment, securing federal funds for Chicago's public transit systems.
