Adam Schiff

Adam Schiff is a Democratic politician currently serving as a United States Senator from California. Born in Framingham, Massachusetts, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from Stanford University and a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School. Before entering politics, Schiff served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, where he notably prosecuted the first FBI agent indicted for espionage. He began his legislative career in the California State Senate in 1996 before being first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000. During his tenure in the House, Schiff represented districts in the Los Angeles area for over two decades and rose to national prominence as the Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. He served as the lead impeachment manager in the first impeachment trial of President Donald Trump and was a member of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol. His legislative achievements include authoring the Daniel Pearl Freedom of the Press Act and various human rights measures. In 2024, he was elected to the U.S. Senate to succeed the seat previously held by Dianne Feinstein.

Adam Schiff supports expanding healthcare access through the Affordable Care Act and has advocated for a transition to universal coverage, including support for Medicare for All. On economic issues, he favors raising the federal minimum wage, increasing taxes on high earners and corporations, and strengthening labor rights. He is a proponent of aggressive environmental action, co-sponsoring the Green New Deal and supporting investments in clean energy technology. Schiff's immigration platform includes a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and protections for DACA recipients. In foreign policy, he has supported aid to Ukraine, security assistance for Israel, and formal recognition of the Armenian Genocide. He also advocates for stricter gun safety laws, including universal background checks and a ban on assault weapons.
