Tim Walberg

Timothy Lee Walberg is the U.S. Representative for Michigan's 5th congressional district and a member of the Republican Party. Born on April 12, 1951, in Chicago, he studied at Western Illinois University and the Moody Bible Institute before earning his bachelor's degree from Taylor University and a master's degree in communications from Wheaton College. Before entering public office, Walberg worked as a union steel mill worker, served in the U.S. Forest Service, and spent nearly a decade as a pastor in Indiana and Michigan. His professional background also includes roles as a division manager at the Moody Bible Institute and president of the Warren Reuther Center for Education and Community Impact. Walberg's political career began in the Michigan House of Representatives, where he served from 1983 to 1999. He was first elected to the U.S. House in 2006 for Michigan's 7th district. After a defeat in 2008, he regained the seat in 2010 and has served in Congress since 2011, transitioning to the 5th district in 2023 following a redistricting cycle. In the House, he serves on the Committee on Energy and Commerce and the Committee on Education and the Workforce, where he has been recognized for his legislative focus on workforce development, fiscal reform, and energy independence.
