Dina Titus

Alice Costandina "Dina" Titus is a Democratic politician who has represented Nevada's 1st Congressional District since 2013, having previously represented the 3rd District from 2009 to 2011. Born in Thomasville, Georgia, she earned her bachelor's degree from the College of William & Mary, a master's from the University of Georgia, and a Ph.D. from Florida State University. Before entering federal politics, she spent over 30 years as a professor of political science at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), where she is now professor emeritus. Titus's legislative career began in the Nevada Senate, where she served for 20 years (1988–2008), including 15 years as the Democratic Minority Leader. Throughout her tenure in Congress, Titus has been a prominent member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the House Foreign Affairs Committee. She is currently recognized as the dean of Nevada's congressional delegation. Her academic background in nuclear politics has made her a leading voice on issues related to atomic testing and waste, specifically in her long-standing opposition to the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository. She is also active in numerous caucuses, including those focused on animal protection, LGBTQ+ equality, and travel and tourism.
