Lois Frankel

Lois Frankel is an American politician and attorney serving as the U.S. Representative for Florida's 22nd congressional district. A member of the Democratic Party, she was first elected to Congress in 2012 and assumed office in January 2013. Before her tenure in Washington, Frankel had a long career in Florida politics, serving 14 years in the Florida House of Representatives where she became the first woman to serve as Minority Leader. She also served two terms as the Mayor of West Palm Beach from 2003 to 2011, focusing on downtown revitalization and economic development. Frankel earned her Bachelor of Arts from Boston University and her Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center. In Congress, she is a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee and has been a prominent leader in the Democratic Women's Caucus. Her legislative work frequently emphasizes women's rights, healthcare access, and the unique needs of South Florida's seniors and veterans. She has been recognized for her advocacy in reproductive freedom and for her leadership on the Women, Peace, and Security Caucus.
