Richard Hudson

Richard Lane Hudson Jr. is a Republican politician who has served as the U.S. Representative for North Carolina since 2013. He first represented the state's 8th Congressional District before redistricting led him to represent the 9th District starting in 2023. Hudson is a key member of the House Republican leadership, currently serving as the Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC). His legislative work is primarily focused on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, where he addresses issues related to energy, healthcare, and communications. Hudson was born in Franklin, Virginia, and grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina. He graduated from Myers Park High School and later attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he was active in student government and earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science in 1996. Prior to his election to public office, Hudson spent several years as a high-level congressional staffer, serving as chief of staff for U.S. Representatives Virginia Foxx, John Carter, and Mike Conaway. During his time in Congress, Hudson has positioned himself as a leading advocate for the military and veterans, due in part to representing Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg). He has sponsored legislation aimed at improving military pay, streamlining VA bureaucracy, and supporting military families. Additionally, he is a prominent figure in the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus and has been recognized for his work on Second Amendment issues and energy independence.
