Marc Veasey

Marc Veasey is a Democratic politician who has served as the U.S. Representative for Texas's 33rd congressional district since 2013. Born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, Veasey graduated from Texas Wesleyan University in 1995 with a degree in Mass Communication. Before entering public office, he worked as a journalist and a substitute teacher before serving as a congressional staffer for U.S. Representative Martin Frost for several years. Veasey's legislative career began in the Texas House of Representatives, where he represented District 95 from 2005 to 2013. During his tenure in the state legislature, he served in leadership roles such as the Democratic Whip and Chair of the House Democratic Caucus. In 2012, he was elected to represent the newly created 33rd congressional district, becoming the first African American congressman elected in Tarrant County. In the U.S. House, Veasey is a member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce and the Committee on Armed Services. He is a prominent advocate for voting rights, having founded the first Congressional Voting Rights Caucus and served as a lead plaintiff in legal challenges against Texas's voter identification laws. Additionally, he co-founded the Blue Collar Caucus, which focuses on issues like wage stagnation and job security for manufacturing and trade workers.

On healthcare, he supports the Affordable Care Act and advocates for expanding access to quality care while lowering the cost of prescription drugs.
