J. Hill

James French Hill, a Republican, has represented Arkansas's 2nd Congressional District since January 2015. A ninth-generation Arkansan, he earned a degree in Economics from Vanderbilt University, graduating magna cum laude. Hill's extensive background in finance and policy includes serving as an aide to Senator John Tower and holding senior roles in the George H.W. Bush administration, specifically as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury and Executive Secretary to the President’s Economic Policy Council. Before his election to Congress in 2014, Hill spent two decades in the private sector where he founded and served as Chairman and CEO of Delta Trust & Banking Corporation in Little Rock. In the House of Representatives, he has risen to prominent leadership roles, including serving as the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee for the 119th Congress. He is also a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where he focuses on national security and international economic policy.

Representative Hill maintains a conservative platform centered on fiscal responsibility, deregulation, and national security. He is an advocate for lower taxes, having supported the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, and he frequently calls for a balanced budget amendment to control federal spending. Hill opposes raising the federal minimum wage, suggesting it should be determined at the state level, and he has voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act. On immigration, he prioritizes border security and has supported legislation such as the Secure the Border Act to address illicit drug trafficking and unauthorized crossings. His foreign policy views emphasize maintaining a technological and military edge over near-peer competitors like China and Russia. Notably, Hill was one of 35 House Republicans who voted to establish the independent commission to investigate the January 6 Capitol attack, and he has been a vocal proponent of improving veterans' benefits through various legislative co-sponsorships.
