John Moolenaar

John Moolenaar is a Republican U.S. Representative from Michigan, currently representing the 2nd Congressional District. He was first elected to the U.S. House in 2014 and assumed office in January 2015. Moolenaar's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Hope College and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University. Before entering federal politics, his career spanned the private and public sectors, including work as a chemist at Dow Chemical, business development roles, and service as a school administrator. Moolenaar's political career began with his election to the Midland City Council, followed by service in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2003 to 2008 and the Michigan State Senate from 2011 to 2015. In Congress, he is a senior member of the House Committee on Appropriations and serves as the Chairman of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party. His legislative work often focuses on fiscal accountability, rural development, and national security issues related to foreign influence.

Moolenaar advocates for fiscal conservatism, emphasizing reduced federal spending and a balanced budget to address national debt. On healthcare, he supports market-based reforms and transparency to lower costs, while frequently criticizing the Affordable Care Act. Regarding immigration, he supports increased border security and the removal of criminal illegal immigrants.
