Debbie Dingell

Debbie Dingell is a Democratic U.S. Representative representing Michigan's 6th Congressional District. Born in Detroit, she earned both a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service and a Master of Science in Liberal Studies from Georgetown University. Before her election to Congress, Dingell had a career in the private sector, working for over 30 years in the automotive industry as a senior executive for public affairs at General Motors and serving as president of the General Motors Foundation. She also served as a member and chair of the Wayne State University Board of Governors and was a founder of the National Women's Health Resource Center. Dingell was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2014, succeeding her late husband, John Dingell, who was the longest-serving member of Congress in U.S. history. In Congress, she sits on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and the House Committee on Natural Resources. She has taken leadership roles as the chair of the Great Lakes Task Force and the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee. Her work often focuses on bridging industry and environmental interests, particularly concerning the future of the American auto industry and manufacturing sector. Throughout her legislative career, Dingell has been an advocate for healthcare reform, environmental protection, and domestic manufacturing. She is recognized for her efforts to address PFAS contamination and for her work on long-term care and women's health initiatives. In 2023, following redistricting, she began representing Michigan's 6th District after previously representing the 12th District since 2015.

Representative Debbie Dingell is a proponent of universal healthcare and is a lead co-author of the Medicare for All Act, arguing that healthcare is a fundamental right. She supports protecting the Affordable Care Act (ACA), lowering prescription drug costs, and expanding access to long-term care for seniors and people with disabilities.
