Tom Emmer

Tom Emmer is a Republican politician who has represented Minnesota's 6th congressional district since 2015. Born in South Bend, Indiana, and raised in Edina, Minnesota, Emmer attended St. Thomas Academy before earning a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and a Juris Doctor from the William Mitchell College of Law. Before entering federal politics, he practiced law as a trial attorney and founded his own firm. His early political career included service on the city councils of Independence and Delano, followed by three terms in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. In 2010, he was the Republican nominee for Governor of Minnesota, narrowly losing the general election to Mark Dayton. Since his election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2014, Emmer has risen through the party leadership ranks. He served as the Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) for the 2020 and 2022 election cycles, overseeing the efforts to regain the Republican majority in the House. In 2023, he was elected by his colleagues to serve as the House Majority Whip for the 118th Congress. Throughout his tenure, he has been a prominent member of the House Financial Services Committee and is recognized as a leading advocate for the emerging cryptocurrency and digital asset industry in Congress.
