David Rouzer

David Cheston Rouzer is a Republican politician serving as the U.S. Representative for North Carolina's 7th congressional district. Born in Landstuhl, West Germany, he was raised in Durham, North Carolina, and spent summers working on his family's farm. He attended North Carolina State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1994 with concentrations in agricultural business management, agricultural economics, and chemistry. Before entering elected office, Rouzer worked as a legislative aide and senior policy advisor for U.S. Senators Jesse Helms and Elizabeth Dole and held a senior-level appointment at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development. Rouzer's legislative career began in the North Carolina Senate, where he represented the 12th district from 2009 to 2013 and focused on regulatory reform and agricultural issues. In the private sector, he operated a consulting and sales business, The Rouzer Company. He was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2014 and assumed office on January 3, 2015. He currently serves on the House Agriculture Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, where he chairs the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit. Throughout his tenure in Congress, Rouzer has been an advocate for coastal and agricultural interests in southeastern North Carolina. He has focused on issues such as beach nourishment, flood insurance stability, and supporting the state’s farming economy. He is a member of various caucuses, including the Republican Study Committee and the Congressional Primary Care Caucus, which he co-founded to promote preventative healthcare strategies.

David Rouzer maintains a conservative platform centered on fiscal responsibility, national security, and deregulation. On economic policy, he advocates for low taxes and the permanent extension of the 2017 tax reforms, arguing that reduced corporate and individual rates stimulate growth. Regarding healthcare, he has consistently supported the repeal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), favoring a market-based system that emphasizes primary care and physician-patient autonomy. He is an advocate for strict border security, including the construction of a border wall and enhanced enforcement of immigration laws, while opposing amnesty for undocumented immigrants. On environmental and coastal issues, he prioritizes federal funding for dredging and beach nourishment to protect North Carolina's coastal economy. His foreign policy views align with the 'Peace through Strength' doctrine, emphasizing a robust military, a strong alliance with Israel, and the protection of U.S. sovereignty against international bodies.
