Brian Babin

Brian Philip Babin is a Republican U.S. Representative for Texas's 36th congressional district, first elected in 2014 and assuming office in January 2015. Born in Port Arthur, Texas, he earned a Bachelor of Science from Lamar University in 1973 and a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston in 1976. Before his time in Congress, he served as a captain in the United States Air Force and held various local offices, including Mayor of Woodville and member of the Woodville Independent School District Board. Throughout his professional career, Babin maintained a dental practice in Woodville for over three decades and was active in regional governance, serving on the Lower Neches Valley Authority and the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners. His legislative focus in Congress has included transportation, infrastructure, and space policy, serving as a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and as Chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.

Babin holds conservative positions on a range of policy issues. On immigration, he supports the construction of a southern border wall, ending 'catch and release' policies, and has introduced the Birthright Citizenship Act to restrict citizenship to those with at least one parent who is a citizen or lawful permanent resident. Regarding healthcare, he advocates for the repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). On the economy, he supports broad tax relief and deregulation to stimulate growth. His environmental stance includes opposition to certain EPA regulations, while his foreign policy positions include support for decertifying the Iran nuclear deal and maintaining strong national defense.
