Dan Newhouse

Dan Newhouse is a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Washington's 4th Congressional District since 2015. Born on July 10, 1955, in Sunnyside, Washington, he is a third-generation farmer who operates an 850-acre family farm in the Yakima Valley. Newhouse graduated from Washington State University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in agricultural economics and is a graduate of the Washington Agriculture and Forestry Leadership Program. Before his election to Congress in 2014, Newhouse served four terms in the Washington State House of Representatives from 2003 to 2009. He then served as the Director of the Washington State Department of Agriculture from 2009 to 2013 under both Democratic and Republican governors. In the U.S. House, he is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and has served as the Chairman of the Congressional Western Caucus. He gained national attention as one of ten House Republicans who voted to impeach President Donald Trump in 2021, though he has continued to win re-election in subsequent cycles. His legislative work frequently focuses on agricultural trade, rural economic development, and energy policy, particularly regarding the Hanford nuclear site cleanup.
