Jim Banks

James Edward Banks is a Republican politician serving as a U.S. Senator from Indiana since 2025. Born and raised in Columbia City, Indiana, he was the first member of his family to attend college, earning a bachelor's degree in political science from Indiana University Bloomington and later a Master of Business Administration from Grace College. Before entering federal politics, Banks worked in the real estate and construction industries and served in local government on the Whitley County Council from 2008 to 2010. He subsequently served in the Indiana State Senate from 2010 to 2016, where he chaired the Senate Veteran Affairs and Military Committee. Banks is also a veteran of the U.S. Navy Reserve, having served as a Supply Corps officer and deploying to Afghanistan in 2014. He was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2016, representing Indiana's 3rd congressional district for four terms. During his tenure in the House, he served as the Chairman of the Republican Study Committee, the largest conservative caucus in the chamber, and was a prominent member of the House Armed Services Committee and the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the U.S. and the Chinese Communist Party. In 2024, he won the election to the U.S. Senate to succeed Mike Braun, continuing his focus on national security and conservative governance.

Jim Banks advocates for a conservative legislative agenda centered on fiscal responsibility, border security, and a strong national defense. He supports pro-growth economic policies, including the permanent extension of tax cuts and significant reductions in federal spending to address the national debt. On immigration, Banks favors stricter enforcement, the completion of a southern border wall, and the reinstatement of the 'Remain in Mexico' policy. He is known for his hawkish foreign policy stance toward China, frequently introducing legislation to counter Chinese influence and address the flow of fentanyl into the U.S. Additionally, he identifies as pro-life, supports Second Amendment rights through national concealed carry reciprocity, and has consistently called for the repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act with market-based healthcare solutions.
