Jacky Rosen

Jacky Rosen is a Democratic politician serving as the junior United States Senator from Nevada since 2019. Born in Chicago on August 2, 1957, she was the first in her family to graduate from college, earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in 1979 and later an associate degree in computing and information technology. Before entering public office, Rosen had a long career as a computer programmer and software developer for Nevada companies such as Southwest Gas and Summa Corporation, and served as the president of Congregation Ner Tamid, a prominent Jewish synagogue in the Las Vegas area. Rosen was first elected to the U.S. Congress in 2016, representing Nevada's 3rd congressional district in the House of Representatives. In 2018, she won election to the U.S. Senate, defeating incumbent Republican Dean Heller, and was subsequently re-elected in 2024. In the Senate, she serves on the Committee on Armed Services and the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, where she has focused on legislation related to STEM education, cybersecurity, and bipartisan support for Nevada’s tourism and hospitality industries.

Rosen supports the Affordable Care Act and has advocated for legislation to lower the cost of prescription drugs and protect coverage for pre-existing conditions. On immigration, she supports comprehensive reform that includes a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients alongside increased funding for border security technology and personnel. Her economic platform emphasizes investments in clean energy, infrastructure, and workforce development, particularly in STEM fields. Rosen is an advocate for environmental protection, consistently opposing the storage of nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain and supporting federal initiatives to address climate change. In foreign policy, she is a staunch supporter of the U.S.-Israel relationship, co-founding the Senate Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism, and has supported strong alliances through NATO and aid to Ukraine.
