Michael Cloud

Michael Cloud is a Republican U.S. Representative for Texas's 27th Congressional District, first elected in a special election in June 2018 and sworn in on July 10, 2018. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he later moved to Texas after earning a Bachelor of Science in Mass Media Communications from Oral Roberts University in 1997. Before entering public office, Cloud worked as a media professional, owning and operating a media services business called Bright Ideas Media and serving for over a decade as the communications and marketing director at Faith Family Church in Victoria, Texas. His political career began at the grassroots level, serving as the chairman of the Victoria County Republican Party from 2010 to 2017 and as a member of the Texas State Executive Republican Committee. In the U.S. House of Representatives, Cloud is a member of the House Freedom Caucus and serves on the Committee on Appropriations and the Committee on Oversight and Accountability. His work in Congress frequently centers on government transparency, fiscal discipline, and oversight of the federal bureaucracy.

Michael Cloud describes himself as a constitutional conservative and prioritizes limited government and fiscal responsibility. He is a strong advocate for border security, supporting the construction of a physical wall and increased enforcement at the U.S.-Mexico border to reduce illegal immigration. On economic issues, he favors tax cuts, deregulation, and significant reductions in federal spending to combat national debt. Cloud is also a proponent of healthcare reform focused on veterans and is a staunch opponent of taxpayer-funded abortions. In foreign policy, he has introduced legislation such as the PEACE Act to require congressional approval for extended military deployments, reflecting a stance against 'endless wars' while simultaneously supporting a well-funded national defense.
