Greg Stanton

Greg Stanton is a Democratic politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Arizona's 4th Congressional District, a position he has held since 2023 after previously representing the 9th District starting in 2019. Born in Long Island, New York, and raised in west Phoenix, Stanton earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from Marquette University in 1992 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School in 1995. Before entering public office, he worked as an education attorney and later served as Arizona’s Deputy Attorney General from 2009 to 2011, focusing on consumer protection and anti-trafficking efforts. Stanton’s political career began with nine years on the Phoenix City Council (2000–2009), followed by his tenure as the 60th Mayor of Phoenix from 2012 to 2018. As mayor, he was recognized for his focus on economic development, sustainability, and securing a major voter-approved transportation plan to expand the city's light rail and transit infrastructure. In Congress, he serves on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, where he continues to advocate for regional infrastructure investments and water security initiatives critical to the desert Southwest.

Stanton’s policy priorities emphasize infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and economic modernization. He is a strong advocate for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the CHIPS and Science Act, which have funded significant transportation and semiconductor projects in Arizona. On healthcare, he supports the Affordable Care Act and has voted for legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act to lower prescription drug costs and cap insulin prices. Regarding the environment, he focuses heavily on securing Arizona’s water future through Colorado River management and climate resilience efforts, earning high ratings from environmental advocacy groups. On immigration, Stanton advocates for comprehensive reform that includes a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients while also supporting enhanced border security and technology. He serves as the chair of the New Democrat Coalition Immigration Task Force. Additionally, Stanton has proposed government reform measures, such as a ban on members of Congress trading individual stocks, and he consistently supports gun safety legislation, including universal background checks and red flag laws.
