Mike Levin

Mike Levin is an American attorney and politician serving as the U.S. Representative for California's 49th congressional district, which includes portions of northern San Diego County and southern Orange County. A member of the Democratic Party, he was first elected to Congress in 2018 and assumed office on January 3, 2019. Before entering public office, Levin earned a Bachelor of Arts from Stanford University, where he served as student body president, and a Juris Doctor from Duke University School of Law, specializing in environmental law. Prior to his congressional career, Levin worked as an environmental attorney and was a director of government affairs at fuel cell and clean energy companies. He was a co-founder of CleanTech OC and served on the board of the Center for Sustainable Energy. In Congress, he has become a prominent advocate for veterans and environmental protection. He served as the lead Democrat on the House Veterans' Affairs Committee's Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity, where he authored major legislation such as the Johnny Isakson and David P. Roe, M.D. Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020. Throughout his tenure, Levin has focused on regional issues such as the management of spent nuclear fuel at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station and coastal infrastructure. He currently serves on the House Committee on Appropriations and is a member of several caucuses, including the Congressional Progressive Caucus, the New Democrat Coalition, and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. He is the grandson of Mexican immigrants and frequently highlights his family background as a motivator for his work on immigration and economic opportunity.
