Lori Trahan

Lori Trahan is the U.S. Representative for Massachusetts' 3rd congressional district and has served as a member of the Democratic Party since 2019. Born and raised in Lowell, Massachusetts, she was the first in her family to graduate from college, attending Georgetown University on a volleyball scholarship where she earned a degree in regional and comparative studies. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2018, succeeding Niki Tsongas. Trahan’s professional career began in the public sector as a staffer for former Congressman Marty Meehan, eventually rising to the position of Chief of Staff. She later transitioned to the private sector, serving as an executive at a technology firm before co-founding Concire, a woman-owned consulting firm focused on business strategy and workplace conditions. Her work in both the public and private sectors has informed her legislative focus on economic opportunity and workforce development. In Congress, Trahan holds leadership positions including Co-Chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee and Senior Whip. She currently serves on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, where she sits on the subcommittees for Health and for Innovation, Data, and Commerce. Throughout her tenure, she has introduced legislation aimed at addressing the opioid epidemic, increasing college affordability, and strengthening consumer protections.

Representative Trahan advocates for the protection and expansion of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), maintaining that healthcare is a fundamental right. She is a supporter of reproductive health access and has worked to lower out-of-pocket medical costs for families. On economic policy, Trahan focuses on supporting working-class families through equal pay for equal work and investments in workforce training. Her education platform emphasizes the importance of quality public education from early childhood through college, advocating for student debt reduction and increased affordability. Regarding immigration, she supports comprehensive reform that includes pathways to citizenship and has expressed opposition to discriminatory immigration policies. Additionally, she supports environmental protections and the transition to clean energy through her work on the Energy and Commerce Committee.
