Madeleine Dean

Madeleine Dean is a Democratic U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania's 4th Congressional District, first elected to the House in 2018. Born and raised in Glenside, Pennsylvania, she graduated from La Salle University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and earned her Juris Doctor from Widener University Delaware Law School. Before entering public office, Dean practiced law in Philadelphia, served as the executive director of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association, and spent over a decade as an assistant professor of English at La Salle University. Dean's political career began as a commissioner for Abington Township before she won a special election to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2012. During her tenure in the state legislature from 2012 to 2018, she focused on issues such as education funding and gun violence prevention, co-founding the PA SAFE Caucus. In Congress, she has taken on high-profile roles, including serving as an impeachment manager during the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump and being appointed to a bipartisan task force investigating the attempted assassination of Donald Trump in 2024.

Representative Dean advocates for universal, affordable healthcare and consistently supports the protection and expansion of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), as well as efforts to lower prescription drug costs. She is a prominent advocate for gun violence prevention, supporting universal background checks, extreme risk protection orders, and bans on high-capacity magazines. On environmental issues, she supports the transition to renewable energy and has voted for legislation like the Climate Action Now Act to uphold international climate agreements. Her economic platform emphasizes infrastructure investment, racial equity in the workforce, and fair trade relationships. Additionally, she supports humane immigration reform, criminal justice reform to address systemic bias, and maintains a stated commitment to a strong U.S.-Israel relationship.
