Tim Burchett

Timothy Floyd Burchett, a Republican, represents Tennessee's 2nd Congressional District and was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018, assuming office on January 3, 2019. Born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, he graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in education. Before his political career, Burchett was a small business owner, operating a successful business that processed grass waste into mulch and compost, as well as a truck and trailer business. Burchett's extensive history in public service began with his election to the Tennessee House of Representatives in 1994, where he served until 1998. He then moved to the Tennessee Senate, serving three terms from 1999 to 2010. Following his state legislative service, he was elected Mayor of Knox County, holding that office from 2010 to 2018. As mayor, he was recognized for his fiscal stewardship, which included reducing the county's debt and funding new schools without raising taxes. In Congress, Burchett has focused on fiscal responsibility, government transparency, and veteran affairs. He has served on the House Committees on Foreign Affairs, Oversight and Accountability, and Transportation and Infrastructure. Notable legislative achievements include sponsoring the PAWS for Veterans Therapy Act and the Patient Advocate Tracker Act, both of which were signed into law. He is also known for his advocacy for government efficiency, serving as the chairman of a subcommittee focused on delivering on government efficiency (DOGE).

Tim Burchett holds consistently conservative positions across a range of policy areas. On the economy, he advocates for cutting federal spending, reducing the national debt, and lowering taxes to promote fiscal responsibility. He is a strong supporter of small businesses and frequently argues against federal regulations and 'red tape' that he believes stifle economic growth. Regarding immigration, Burchett emphasizes the rule of law, supporting the completion of a border wall, the 'Remain in Mexico' policy, and increased border security to end illegal immigration. In terms of healthcare, he supports repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act with a system focused on lowering costs through free-market competition. He also advocates for protecting Social Security and Medicare by curbing reckless government spending. On foreign policy, he is a staunch supporter of Israel and believes the U.S. must project strength against adversaries like China and Iran. He is vocal about government reform, supporting term limits for members of Congress and the abolishment of the federal Department of Education to return authority to state and local governments. Additionally, he is pro-life and a firm defender of the Second Amendment.
