Chip Roy

Charles Eugene "Chip" Roy is a Republican politician representing Texas's 21st congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. First elected in 2018, Roy assumed office in January 2019. Born in Bethesda, Maryland, he earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science from the University of Virginia followed by a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law. Before his career in law and politics, he spent three years as an investment banking analyst. Roy's professional history includes serving in senior advisory and legal roles for prominent Texas officials. He was the Chief of Staff to U.S. Senator Ted Cruz and served as the First Assistant Attorney General of Texas under Ken Paxton. His experience also includes working as a senior advisor to Governor Rick Perry, a federal prosecutor in the Eastern District of Texas, and as staff director for Senator John Cornyn on the Senate Judiciary Committee. In Congress, Roy is a member of the House Judiciary, Rules, and Budget Committees. He has established himself as a leader within the House Freedom Caucus, where he has served as Policy Chair. He is known for his emphasis on fiscal conservatism and constitutional limited government, often utilizing procedural maneuvers to advocate for budget cuts and legislative transparency.
