Ben Cline

Benjamin Lee Cline is a Republican politician and attorney who has served as the U.S. Representative for Virginia's 6th congressional district since January 2019. Born in Oklahoma and raised in Rockbridge County, Virginia, Cline earned a Bachelor of Arts from Bates College in 1994 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Richmond School of Law in 2007. Before his election to Congress, he spent sixteen years in the Virginia House of Delegates (2002–2018), where he chaired the Committee on Militia, Police, and Public Safety and co-chaired the Conservative Caucus. His professional career includes serving as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for Rockingham County and the City of Harrisonburg, as well as maintaining a private law practice. He also has extensive experience on Capitol Hill, having previously served as Chief of Staff to his predecessor, Representative Bob Goodlatte. In the U.S. House of Representatives, Cline has held seats on the Committees on the Judiciary, Appropriations, Budget, and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He gained recognition early in his congressional tenure as the first freshman Republican of the 116th Congress to have legislation signed into law.

Cline's policy positions are characterized by a focus on fiscal conservatism, regulatory reform, and border security. He advocates for making the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent, reducing the regulatory burden on small businesses through measures like the REINS Act, and cutting federal spending to address inflation. On healthcare, he supports patient-centered reforms aimed at lowering premiums and increasing transparency in prescription drug pricing, while frequently criticizing the Affordable Care Act. Regarding immigration, Cline supports strict border security measures, the reinstatement of the 'Remain in Mexico' policy, and enhanced vetting processes for migrants. His foreign policy stances include strong support for Israel and legislation to prevent foreign influence—particularly from the Chinese Communist Party—in American schools and elections. On social issues, he is pro-life, supports 'Right-to-Work' laws, and has introduced legislation to restrict federal recognition of gender to biological sex at birth.
