Bryan Steil

Bryan George Steil is a Republican politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Wisconsin's 1st congressional district, a position he has held since 2019. Born and raised in Janesville, Wisconsin, Steil earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin Law School. Before entering politics, he worked as an attorney for McDermott Will & Emery and spent a decade in the manufacturing industry, serving as an executive for Regal Beloit Corporation and Charter NEX Film. In 2016, he was appointed to the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents, where he helped oversee a multi-billion dollar budget and supported tuition freezes. Steil was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2018, succeeding former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, for whom he had previously served as a legislative aide. In Congress, he has been a prominent member of the House Committee on Financial Services and currently serves as the Chairman of the Committee on House Administration. He also co-founded the Congressional Future of Work Caucus, which focuses on job training and the impact of artificial intelligence on the workforce. His legislative career is marked by a focus on economic policy, election integrity, and streamlining federal regulations.

Steil is a fiscal conservative who advocates for reduced federal spending, balanced budgets, and lower corporate taxes to stimulate economic growth. Regarding immigration and border security, he supports increased funding for enforcement and physical barriers, and he has championed the SAVE Act, which requires proof of citizenship for voter registration. In the energy sector, he promotes an 'all-of-the-above' approach that includes fossil fuels and nuclear power to achieve energy independence. His foreign policy stances include strong support for Israel and advocacy for strategic competition with China, while he has expressed skepticism toward certain central bank digital currency (CBDC) initiatives, citing privacy concerns.
