Gregory Murphy

Gregory Murphy is a physician and politician serving as the U.S. Representative for North Carolina's 3rd congressional district. A member of the Republican Party, Murphy was first elected to Congress in a 2019 special election following the death of longtime incumbent Walter B. Jones Jr. Before entering federal office, Murphy served in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019, where he represented the 9th district. He earned his bachelor's degree from Davidson College and his medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, eventually becoming a urologist and the chief of the division of urology at the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine. Murphy's legislative work in the U.S. House includes assignments on the Committee on Ways and Means, the Committee on House Administration, and the Committee on Veterans' Affairs. As a practicing physician, he serves as the co-chair of the GOP Doctors Caucus, where he frequently leads discussions on medical policy and healthcare reform.
