Darrell Issa

Darrell Issa is a Republican U.S. Representative representing California's 48th congressional district. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Issa served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1980, achieving the rank of captain. Before entering politics, he was a successful entrepreneur who founded Directed Electronics, a company that became a leading manufacturer of vehicle security and convenience products, including the Viper car alarm. Issa was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2000 and served from 2001 until 2019. After a brief hiatus, he returned to Congress in 2021, representing California's 50th district before redistricting moved him to the 48th district. Throughout his tenure, Issa has been a prominent figure in government oversight, serving as the Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee from 2011 to 2015. He is also recognized for his role in California state politics, specifically as a key architect of the 2003 recall of Governor Gray Davis. His legislative focus often centers on intellectual property, technology policy, and government accountability. He currently serves as a senior member of the House Judiciary and Foreign Affairs Committees.
