Pete Sessions

Pete Sessions is a Republican politician who has represented Texas' 17th Congressional District since 2021. Born in Waco, Texas, Sessions graduated from Southwestern University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Before his tenure in public office, he worked for 16 years at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, where he rose to the position of district manager. He was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1996, representing Texas' 5th district and later the 32nd district until 2019. After a brief period out of office, he was elected to represent the 17th district in 2020. Throughout his congressional career, Sessions has held significant leadership positions within the Republican Party, including serving as Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) from 2009 to 2013 and Chairman of the House Rules Committee from 2013 to 2019. He currently serves as a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee and the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. Outside of his legislative work, Sessions is a Distinguished Eagle Scout and has been heavily involved with the Boy Scouts of America and various local community organizations in Texas.

Sessions maintains a consistently conservative platform focused on limited government, fiscal responsibility, and national security. He is a proponent of 'market-based' healthcare reforms and has repeatedly voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act in favor of patient-centered models. On economic policy, he advocates for lower taxes, deregulation, and balanced federal budgets. Sessions is a staunch supporter of stricter border security measures, including the construction of a wall on the southern border and enhanced enforcement of immigration laws. He holds a 'pro-life' stance on abortion, frequently supporting legislation to restrict federal funding for abortion services and protect the rights of the unborn. Additionally, he is a firm defender of Second Amendment rights, earning high ratings from the National Rifle Association for his opposition to various gun control measures.
