Barry Moore

Barry Moore is a Republican politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Alabama's 1st Congressional District, a position he assumed in January 2025 following redistricting. He was first elected to Congress in 2020 to represent Alabama’s 2nd District. Born and raised on a family farm in Coffee County, Alabama, Moore earned an Associate of Science from Enterprise State Junior College in 1988 and a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Science from Auburn University in 1992. During his college years, he served for six years in the Alabama Army National Guard and was a member of the Auburn ROTC Army Ranger Challenge Team. Before entering federal politics, Moore was a small business owner, founding Barry Moore Industries (now Hopper-Moore Inc.), an industrial waste hauling company, in 1998. His political career began in the Alabama House of Representatives, where he served from 2010 to 2018 representing the 91st District. During his tenure in the state legislature, he chaired the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee. In the U.S. House, Moore is a member of the House Freedom Caucus and serves on the House Judiciary and House Agriculture Committees.

Moore’s policy positions are characterized by a focus on fiscal conservatism, border security, and traditional values. He advocates for a merit-based immigration system and has introduced legislation to overhaul legal immigration by prioritizing American workers and ending diversity lotteries. On economic issues, he supports limited government spending, tax reductions, and deregulation, having consistently voted against large-scale federal relief packages. He is a proponent of domestic manufacturing to reduce reliance on foreign nations, particularly China, for critical supplies like semiconductors and medical equipment. In healthcare, Moore supports private insurance markets and has expressed opposition to universal coverage, while stating a commitment to protecting existing programs like Medicare and Social Security. He maintains a strong pro-life voting record and is an advocate for the Second Amendment. In foreign policy, he identifies as strongly pro-Israel and has called for increased oversight of federal funding sent to Ukraine. Additionally, he was one of the Republican members of Congress who objected to the certification of the 2020 presidential election results.
