Young Kim

Young Kim is a Republican U.S. Representative serving California's 40th Congressional District. Born in Incheon, South Korea, she immigrated to Guam with her family in 1975 and later moved to Hawaii for high school before settling in California. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Southern California. Before entering public office, Kim worked as a financial analyst for First Interstate Bank, a controller for a manufacturing company, and a small business owner in the garment industry. She also spent over 20 years working as a community liaison and director of Asian affairs for former U.S. Representative Ed Royce. Kim began her elected career in the California State Assembly, where she represented the 65th district from 2014 to 2016, making history as the first Korean American Republican woman elected to the state legislature. She was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2020, defeating an incumbent to represent California's 39th district. Following redistricting, she was elected to represent the 40th district in 2022. Kim is recognized as one of the first three Korean American women to serve in Congress and currently chairs the Indo-Pacific Subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Throughout her tenure, Kim has focused on issues affecting small businesses and the Korean American community. She has been a member of the Problem Solvers Caucus, positioning herself as a bipartisan legislator on various fiscal and social matters. Her career in Congress has been marked by advocacy for trade, human rights in Asia, and economic relief for small enterprises.
