Sara Jacobs

Sara Jacobs is the U.S. Representative for California's 51st congressional district, a seat she has held since 2023 after previously representing the 53rd district. A member of the Democratic Party, she was first elected to Congress in 2020 and became the youngest member of California's congressional delegation. Jacobs earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University. Her professional background includes serving in policy positions at the United Nations, UNICEF, and the U.S. Department of State, as well as working as a foreign policy advisor for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. In addition to her government service, Jacobs served as the founding CEO of Project Connect, a nonprofit dedicated to mapping schools and their internet connectivity globally, and founded San Diego for Every Child, a coalition aimed at ending child poverty. In Congress, she serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Armed Services Committee. She is recognized for her focus on reproductive rights, child care infrastructure, and the protection of civilians in conflict zones. Jacobs has been noted for her leadership roles within the Democratic caucus, including serving as the caucus leadership representative for the 118th Congress.

Jacobs' policy platform emphasizes social welfare, reproductive healthcare, and human rights-centered foreign policy. She is a vocal supporter of the Affordable Care Act and has advocated for the expansion of Medicaid (Medi-Cal) while opposing federal budget cuts to food assistance programs like SNAP. A primary focus of her legislative work is reproductive rights; she introduced the 'My Body, My Data Act' to protect personal reproductive health data and supports the Right to Contraception Act. On economic issues, she supports collective bargaining rights and argues for tax structures that favor working families over corporations and the ultra-wealthy.
