Ashley Hinson

Ashley Hinson is a Republican politician and former journalist serving as the U.S. Representative for Iowa's 2nd Congressional District. First elected to Congress in 2020, she assumed office on January 3, 2021, initially representing the 1st District before being redistricted to the 2nd District following the 2022 election cycle. Hinson graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism and spent over a decade as an award-winning news anchor and reporter for KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids. Before her tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives, Hinson served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2017 to 2021, representing the 67th district. In Congress, she is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party. Her legislative work has frequently focused on infrastructure, childcare access, and government accountability. In late 2025, she announced her candidacy for the U.S. Senate in the 2026 election to succeed retiring Senator Joni Ernst.

Hinson identifies as pro-life and advocates for policies that support adoption and maternal health while opposing taxpayer funding for abortion providers. On economic issues, she supports extending the 2017 tax cuts, cutting government spending to combat inflation, and implementing 'no tax on tips' and overtime policies to support working families. Regarding immigration, she has been a vocal critic of border security policies under the Biden administration, advocating for the 'Remain in Mexico' policy and increased enforcement at the southern border. Her healthcare platform focuses on patient-centered care and protecting coverage for individuals with pre-existing conditions without moving toward a government-run system. Additionally, she is a proponent of school choice and expanding educational flexibility for parents.
