Frank Mrvan

Frank John Mrvan is the U.S. Representative for Indiana's 1st Congressional District, a position he has held since January 3, 2021. A member of the Democratic Party, Mrvan was first elected to Congress in 2020 to succeed retiring long-time Representative Pete Visclosky. Born and raised in Hammond, Indiana, Mrvan graduated from Oliver P. Morton High School in 1987 and earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Ball State University in 1992. Before entering public office, he worked in the private sector as a pharmaceutical sales representative and a licensed mortgage broker. Mrvan's career in public service began in local government, where he served as the township trustee for North Township, Indiana, from 2005 until 2021. As trustee, he managed social services and emergency assistance programs for the region's most vulnerable residents. In Congress, he has served on several key committees, including the House Committee on Appropriations and the House Committee on Education and the Workforce. He is also a prominent advocate for the regional industry as a co-chair of the Congressional Steel Caucus.

Representative Mrvan's policy platform centers on supporting organized labor, domestic manufacturing, and expanding access to healthcare. He advocates for a public health insurance option to lower costs and is a vocal supporter of reproductive rights, including the codification of Roe v. Wade. On the economy, he emphasizes 'Buy America' provisions in federal projects and supports infrastructure investments to bolster the Northwest Indiana steel industry. He views climate change as an urgent threat and has voted for major climate legislation to increase investments in clean energy and reduce emissions. Regarding immigration, Mrvan supports enhancing border security through modernized technology and increased personnel to address drug and human trafficking, while also advocating for a secure and orderly process. Additionally, he supports gun safety measures, including universal background checks and restrictions on military-grade weapons.
