Jake Auchincloss

Jacob Daniel "Jake" Auchincloss is the U.S. Representative for Massachusetts's 4th congressional district, first elected in 2020 as a member of the Democratic Party. Born in Newton, Massachusetts, he graduated from Harvard College with a degree in government and economics before commissioning as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. During his military service from 2010 to 2015, Auchincloss commanded infantry units in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, and led a reconnaissance unit in Panama. Following his active duty, he earned an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and worked in the private sector as a manager at a cybersecurity startup and at Liberty Mutual's innovation lab. Auchincloss began his political career on the Newton City Council, where he served three terms from 2015 to 2020 and chaired the Transportation and Public Safety Committee. In 2020, he won a competitive Democratic primary to succeed Joe Kennedy III in the U.S. House of Representatives. In Congress, he has served on the Committee on Financial Services, the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party. For the 119th Congress, he was assigned to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, where his work focuses on healthcare, energy, and environmental policies.

Auchincloss's policy platform emphasizes economic stability, healthcare affordability, and climate action. He advocates for universal healthcare coverage and has proposed lowering costs by reducing insurance bureaucracy and directly subsidizing primary care providers. On environmental issues, he supports the transition to a clean-energy economy, with a particular focus on offshore wind and green transportation infrastructure. His economic agenda includes addressing housing affordability, supporting the middle class, and reducing the federal debt. Socially, he is a vocal supporter of reproductive rights and favors stricter gun control measures, such as universal background checks. In foreign policy, he maintains a strong stance on strategic competition with China and supports the U.S.-Israel relationship while calling for more efficient military spending.
