Andrew Garbarino

Andrew Reed Garbarino is a Republican politician and attorney serving as the U.S. Representative for New York's 2nd congressional district, a position he has held since 2021. Born and raised in Sayville, New York, Garbarino earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and classical humanities from George Washington University in 2006 and a Juris Doctor from Hofstra University School of Law in 2009. Before his election to Congress, he worked at his family's law firm in Sayville and served four terms in the New York State Assembly, representing the 7th district from 2013 to 2020. In Congress, Garbarino has focused on issues impacting Long Island's South Shore, including national security, tax relief, and local infrastructure. He currently serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, where he leads efforts related to counterterrorism, border security, and cybersecurity. Additionally, he is a member of the House Financial Services Committee and the House Ethics Committee. Garbarino is known for his involvement in bipartisan groups, including the Problem Solvers Caucus and the Climate Solutions Caucus, and has been recognized for his work on 9/11 responder healthcare and restoring the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction.

On economic issues, he is a prominent advocate for restoring the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction, arguing that the current cap disproportionately burdens middle-class families in high-tax states like New York. On law enforcement and crime, he strongly supports police departments and has publicly opposed state-level bail reform measures he considers detrimental to public safety. On immigration and national security, Garbarino advocates for enhanced border security and increased resources for the Department of Homeland Security to combat terrorism and cyber threats.
