Nancy Mace

Nancy Mace is a Republican U.S. Representative for South Carolina's 1st Congressional District, serving since January 2021. Born in 1977 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, she is the daughter of a retired U.S. Army General and a schoolteacher. Mace achieved national recognition in 1999 as the first woman to graduate from the Corps of Cadets at The Citadel. She later earned a master's degree in journalism and mass communication from the University of Georgia and operated a public relations and marketing firm before her political career. Mace served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2018 to 2020, representing District 99. In 2020, she was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, becoming the first Republican woman from South Carolina to serve in Congress. During her tenure, she has served on committees including Oversight and Accountability, Armed Services, and Transportation and Infrastructure. Her legislative work has included efforts in cybersecurity, human trafficking prevention, and fiscal reform.

Mace identifies as a fiscal conservative and describes her social views as sensible. On the economy, she supports lower taxes, reduced federal spending, and deregulation. In healthcare, she favors market competition and has advocated for protecting pre-existing conditions and expanding access to contraception. She is a vocal opponent of offshore drilling off the South Carolina coast and supports conservation. Her immigration policy emphasizes border security and stricter vetting processes. In foreign policy, she supports a strong national defense and is a proponent of the U.S.-Israel alliance. On social issues, she is pro-life with exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother.
